MAITRISE D’OUVRAGE PUBLIQUE DE LA FEDERATION WALLONIE-BRUXELLES AWARD : Nominated 2011

The old Laeken town hall in Flemish neo-Renaissance style (designed by Paul Bonduelle and built in 1906) now accommodates various functions such as the police, local authority services and the cultural centre. As part of restructuring and renovation work, the whole building was modernised, by reorganisation of the functions, the circulation of the public and the staff, the refurbishment of the structure, the technical plant, the decoration and the finishing. The cultural centre moved into the front section of the building (shows, library, music, graphic arts), while the local authority services (police, registers of population, births, deaths and marriages) are in the rear section of the building.

This subdivision project is located close to Calevoet railway station and the Lycée Français, on the site of the Engeland plateau. It includes 298 homes, comprising 236 apartments and 62 houses, to be built over nine years. All of this will cover 9 hectares, of which 6 hectares will be kept as a protected green area.
